Victoria Parker, Senior Editor, Dance
I am delighted to take on the role of senior editor in dance studies at Horizon VU Sound and Movement. As senior editor in dance, I am here to share my thoughts, opinions, and viewpoints on interesting, new, and sometimes even controversial topics that are currently circulating the dance world. Open conversations are welcome, as I would like to start a dialog between artists and those they are trying to reach. Dancers, specifically, have a lot to say, although they never get a chance to speak on stage, I want to give them a voice here. Sometimes dance needs to be interpreted for those unfamiliar with the art, thus what I would like to provide.
I trained in classical ballet from the time I was 3 years old, up until the COVID-19 pandemic practically kicked me out of the studio. Never the less, I remain a dancer at heart, even if I am not currently dancing in a studio. I have attended numerous summer intensives both as a student and as an employee working with the students. I am also an alum of the North Carolina School of the Arts and the University of South Carolina. Through USC I was also able to take a semester to study at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona in Spain. I graduated from USC in spring 2020 with a major in dance performance and choreography and minors in business administration and nutrition.
Currently, I am studying in Paris, France and working towards a degree in Performing Arts and Cultural Management. Each of these experiences has given me an unique world view of dance and how the other arts can and do impact the dance world. I would like to present relevant facts about the dance world from my point of view and how the experiences I have had impacted who I am today and why I have these views. I hope my writing can shine a light on a world you may or may not be familiar with or offer up a new perspective on a common subject. I look forward to this experience with you and being able to open up some incredible conversations.
